Liquid Separation

Reducing energy, saving resources and safe processing have high priority in the chemical and petrochemical industry today. Our advanced liquid separation technologies are targeted to treat hydrocarbon based or solvent containing process streams and provide valuable tools for process intensification.

Typically organic liquid streams are processed by conventional thermal unit operations that consume high amounts of energy, operate at high temperatures and/or require additional chemicals for efficient separation. Our membrane based solutions offer potent alternatives or additions for new processes and a valuable tool for the retrofit of existing unit operations.

Organic Solvent Nanofiltration

BORSIG Organic Solvent Nanofiltration (OSN) membranes enable non-thermal liquid separation and fractionating processes for the treatment of organic mixtures and solvent-based production streams.


BORSIG Pervaporation Units are state-of the art technology for dehydration of solvents and offer an efficient solution for separation of azeotropes with water or methanol.

The implementation of an OSN unit in a separation process may simplify the entire process by substituting one or more separation steps. The modular design additionally allows for flexible capacity adjustment.

In recent years BORSIG Membrane Technology GmbH has developed new solvent-resistant polymer membranes which are now industrially available having already proven their performance in industrial reference installations.

Due to complex interactions between the process fluids and the polymeric membranes, an intensive process development is required for OSN applications.


Organic Solvent Nanofiltration

One of our innovative membrane technologies is Organic Solvent Nanofiltration (OSN), a new separation technology for the treatment of liquid process streams in the molecular range. OSN is a pressure driven process
that operates at moderate or ambient temperatures. The separation takes place in the liquid phase. No phase transition is required for efficient separation.
